Civil graduate to represent Africa in Dublin

Congratulations to Daniel Avutia who has won the National Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Young Persons’ Lecture Competition for his lecture entitled: Analytical study of sinkhole propagation in South Africa. He will represent Africa at the World Championships in Dublin, Ireland in October 2015 where he will compete with the winners from the other five continents.

Daniel Avutia completed his BSc Civil Eng at UCT in 2010 and proceeded to do his Masters in Geotech under the supervision of Dr Denis Kalumba. He graduated in June 2014 and the title of his thesis was Analytical and numerical study of dolomite sinkholes in Centurion, South Africa.

Daniel is presently a geotechnical engineer with SRK Consulting in Johannesburg. The SRK Consulting (SA) Chairman and corporate consultant, Roger Dixon, said, “Daniel epitomises the technical excellence that SRK is renowned for.”
